I am doing a personal marketing plan for class, and the teacher asks which companies we would want to work for, and I am not sure how I should put the company names. Do they have a TM or (R) or (C) sign near them or italicized or anything? I just want to know, because I am done with the paper, but it’s due in 2 hrs and I want it to be perfect!!

It depends on the company :) Their name, logo, tagline, etc may or may not be an enforceable trademark or protected by copyright.

I would suggest visiting their website to see how they list themselves (or dig a little deeper and look at their press releases or SEC filings). For example, you would list Apple, Inc. as a company you could work for, but would use the trademark symbol if you were to show the Apple logo image.

Blizzard Entertainment designates their title along with the trademark symbol formally.

You should, however, list their incorporation status. Examples would be Apple, Inc., Gateway, Inc. etc.

Marketing is one of the easiest business majors that makes the most money for the work you but in. You also get to be creative and meet new people. However if you really don’t like dealing with people and brown nosing, and selling thing it will suck for you. You also have to write a lot more then in finance.

Finance is really challenging but I really enjoy it. In away you do get to be creative and find new arbitrage opportunities. You learn a lot about what’s going on around you in the financial world and there are a lot of great opportunities to work in the environment you like where in an office like corporate finance or is sell like investments. Down side it teaches you that people are greedy and self serving. That to make it you have to look out for yourself.

however most CEO come from either marketing or finance.

To be honest, where you went to school doesn’t really matter in Advertising. Neither does the degree you receive. People with Psychology degrees, English degrees, and Economics degrees have jobs in the Advertising field. The most important thing when applying for positions is your work experience. The best thing you can do while still attending school is to get internships. I had three internships while in school and learned more there than in my 4 years in college (with an Advertising degree). These internships are what Human Resource departments look at too.

Although it is not a double major I see too often, I think it makes a lot of sense. If you go into politics, you need to know how to market yourself. If you go to law school, you would get a good grounding in business which may help you in some cases, and also if you were to establish your own practice later on. As a marketing professor with a law degree myself, it makes sense to me.
